This idea was initially proposed by India’s think tank Niti Aayog in June 2018 for wider consultation for digitizing India’s health care system called National Health Stack

This scheme will bring a big revolution in the health care sector and provide access to a healthcare facility for every single person in this country.

In this article, we will share all the details regarding the implementation of the scheme like the online application process, eligibility criteria

What is Health ID Card 2022?

A health ID Card is a unique digital information card where the complete health profile of a person is stored. It will completely eradicate the problem of getting treatment in various healthcare facilities across the country. It will be issued to every person

A 14 digit unique number will be provided for each individual

Each of the Health IDs is provided as an account wherein every visit to a doctor will be recorded in it. Similarly, the prescription from the healthcare facility, lists of tests done to you, medical reports and major diseases diagnosed will be digitally saved.

Hospital and health profession details who treated your ailment will be logged into your database

Ownership of the health database will be sole with individual

With this scheme, people do not require to carry physical health records each time they visit the hospital.

Health infrastructure in the country will improve because of the implementation of the technology

Government Action Plan For One Nation One Health Card

An amount of Rs. 500 crores have been allocated in the first phase for implementation of the scheme

This mission for implementation of this will be headed by union health minister will supervise and guide the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM)

Group members in this mission will include ministers of Information Technology, AYUSH, Women and Child Development, Social Justice and Empowerment, Member Health (NITI Aayog), the principal scientific advisor, health secretaries, and the CEO of National Health Authority

The central government is considering launching this National Health ID Card in a phased manner first covering urban areas and gradually expanding the scheme to rural areas of the country

This health ID scheme will be started on a pilot basis in union territories like Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Ladakh by August end

  • In the second phase, it will be launched in additional states
  • After that, this scheme will be rolled out all across India
  • Since the announcement has been made only on Aug 15, 2020, by PM Narendra Modi, implementation of this scheme may take some more time.

Due to fears of data privacy of the people, the government is considering the limit of access to your health data to medical professions/doctors only after your prior permission

Your data will be shared only one time with those medical professionals who treat you for disease

Another important thing about this scheme is it is optional to link your health data with a unique health id issued by the government

Aaadhar card will be linked with the Health ID card database of individuals for availing other direct benefit transfer schemes

Health ID data will be linked to the health consent manager which seeks the patient’s permission before sharing your health data with doctors from the personal health records module of the centralized database

This Health ID card scheme will be optional, people can enroll or can opt-out if they have any doubts or fears of data privacy

By not making it mandatory for everyone to opt for Health ID Card, the government quoted saying that people who opted out will also be given priority treatment without questioning them

Gradually this Health ID card scheme will be connected only with clinics or hospitals but also with insurance companies who can accurately take a decision on insurance claims by patients. Medical stores will also be connected at a later stage
